Throwing a garbage can in disgust is a time-honored
tradition in hockey coach tantrums. But throwing a garbage can with various liquids
and condiments and other rubbish onto the ice is pretty gross.
According to this video from a youth
game in Gatineau (in western Quebec), a coach decided to litter the ice
after a ref called both a 5-minute boarding and a 2-minute cross-checking penalty. The
coach’s team was down 4-1 at the time.
Ah, but then the power shifted back to the official, who
reportedly refused to continue the game until the coach came out with a broom
and cleaned up the ice. Take a look:
Now there’s a life lesson for all those young players. No,
not that you have to clean up after you’ve made a mess; that you always double
check to make sure the garbage can doesn’t have half-sipped bottles of Gatorade
before you throw it on the ice. Those stains are a bear to get out.
