Earlier today, Bourne
made the case that it’s better to have nasty hitters on your roster than
traditional enforcers. Defenseman Dion Phaneuf of the Toronto Maple Leafs is
one such hitter, as Dana Tyrell discovered just seconds into the Leafs’ game at
the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
Like any great hockey highlight these days, Dion’s hit has inspired
an animated .gif that actually gives a better angle on the bench-dumping
check (s/t Paul
Brothers).
We’d say the hit set the tone for the Leafs, but there ended
up surrendering two
goals and 17 shots in the first period. But hey: a Phaneuf’ing is a Phaneuf’ing.
